How Big do Aussiedoodles Get?

Share with a fellow Aussiedoodle lover!

If you’re considering welcoming an Aussiedoodle into your life, one of the primary questions on your mind might be, “How big do Aussiedoodles get?” This delightful crossbreed, born from the Australian Shepherd and Poodle, comes in various sizes. The three most common are Toy, Mini and Standard–but there’s also a fourth size that you might see on occasion!

Toy Aussiedoodles

  • Size Range: Under 12 inches in height
  • Weight Range: Usually under 12 pounds

Toy Aussiedoodles are the smallest variety. This dog is the result of breeding a Toy Poodle and a Miniature Australian Shepherd (also known as a Miniature American Shepherd).

They’re ideal for those living in apartments or homes with limited space. Despite their small stature, they pack a punch in personality and intelligence.

Their size makes them highly adaptable and easy to manage in various living situations; they are also a good choice for dog lovers who would like to fly with their dog.

Mini Aussiedoodles

  • Size Range: 12 to 18 inches in height
  • Weight Range: 15 to 30-35 pounds, depending on breeder

A step up in size, Mini Aussiedoodles are a popular choice and often seen. These dogs are the offspring of a Miniature Poodle and a Miniature Australian Shepherd.

They strike a balance between being small enough for compact living spaces but large enough to enjoy more vigorous activities and play. Mini Aussiedoodles often display a playful and energetic nature, combined with a manageable size.

Medium or Moyen Aussiedoodles

  • Size Range: 18 to 22 inches in height
  • Weight Range: 30 to 50 pounds

OK, here’s the size you don’t see as often. Called both a Medium Aussiedoodle or a Moyen Aussiedoodle, this size is the product of a Moyen Poodle and a Mini Australian Shepherd. Some breeders may term the smaller of this category as Minis and the larger as Standard.

The Moyen Poodle is a size recognized in Europe but, in the United States, isn’t recognized as a separate size. Moyen Poodles generally stand about 15 to 20 inches tall at the shoulder and weigh between 20 and 35 pounds.

These dogs are large enough for robust physical activity, making them excellent companions for outdoor adventures, yet they are still of a size that is manageable in most homes, even with smaller yards. They typically inherit a good mix of both parent breeds’ traits in terms of intelligence, energy, and affection.

Standard Aussiedoodles

  • Size Range: 22 inches and up in height
  • Weight Range: 40 to 70 pounds, sometimes larger

The largest of the Aussiedoodles, Standard Aussiedoodles, is the product of a Standard Poodle and an Australian Shepherd.

These dogs are best suited for families with more space at home. Their larger size makes them excellent for active lifestyles, suitable for hiking, running, and other high-energy activities. Despite their size, they often retain the gentle and affectionate nature characteristic of the breed.

In your searches, you’ll also see dogs that are a combination of these sizes. Our Isla’s DNA test showed that she has both Australian Shepherd and Miniature Australian Shepherd in her family tree. She weighs 45 pounds.

Aussiedoodles come in a range of sizes to fit various lifestyles and preferences. From the compact and cuddly Toy Aussiedoodle to the robust and active Standard Aussiedoodle, there’s a size for many lifestyles.

Regardless of the size, Aussiedoodles are known for their intelligence, affectionate nature, and more hypoallergenic coats. When considering an Aussiedoodle, think about your living space, lifestyle, and the time you can dedicate to exercise and training. Remember, a well-cared-for Aussiedoodle, regardless of size, can make a loving and delightful addition to your family!

Each Aussiedoodle, big or small, brings its own unique joy and challenges. Choose the size that fits your life, and get ready for a wonderful journey!
